Call for Papers: The Arts, New Growth Theory and Economic Development

In conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts, a symposium on “The Arts, New Growth Theory and Economic Development” will be held in May 2012 in Washington DC. The symposium will bring together researchers to identify how new developments in economic growth theory over the last two decades might inform our understanding about whether arts-related investments play a role in stimulating economic activity at the local, regional, and/or national levels. Such investments may include, for example, the creation of arts districts, the construction of performing arts centers and museums, and arts-favorable tax policies and other incentives for productivity and innovation in fields such as architecture and design, visual and performing arts, and literary and media arts.

Submissions: Researchers should send an abstract and contact information to Michael Rushton, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University at by December 13, 2011.
