2nd Caravanes Francophones International Forum

For its 2nd edition, the Caravanes Francophones International Forum will take place in Lyon from October 1st to 5th and hosted artists from 16 European countries, 5 regions of France and Québec.

Caravane des dix mots (lit. ‘a caravan of ten words’) is first and foremost a cultural project, grown out of the “10-word” concept that has been part of the French language week celebrations since 1999. The “ten-word” principle has proved universal in its simplicity, acting everywhere as a “creative constraint”, promoting expression and dialogue.The easy and accessible medium fosters creativity - in a playful, artistic or personal mode but also dealing with society problems.

Caravane des dix mots is also an artistic and playful approach to the French language, creating a sense of community within the francophone world, sharing words in order to reveal cultural diversity. The idea is to seek out the sense and meaning beyond the mere dictionary definition of a word, proving that we all may enrich our common language and benefit from cultural diversity.

Caravanes francophones thus appears as a creative medium and the means of expression of a great variety of cultures. It plays a major role in bringing nearer to one another, if not together, not only people separated by the social structures, cultural traditions or level of development of their countries but also people living in the same country but with different cultural backgrounds, revealing everyone’s multiple allegiances, at the meeting point of local culture and a common language spoken on five continents.

Caravane des dix mots, last but not least, is a cultural project based on:
- setting up interdisciplinary art workshops for a creative - individual as well as collective - approach to the ‘ten words’,
- shooting a 26’ film recounting the whole process
- performance
- short film festival (6’ Caravanes films)

Québec - October 2008, 8-12
Caravanes of Europe, Asia, America and Africa will gather then to Québec from 8 to 12 October 2008, fits within the 400th anniversary celebrations of the city of Québec and the XIIth Sommet de la Francophonie.
