Maja Wolny (° Kielce, Polen, 30-11-1976) is a writer, cultural operator and journalist. She works often as a moderator of cultural debates (English, Dutch, Polish).

She studied Polish Philology, Journalism and Political Sciences at the Jagellionian University in Krakow and the Warsaw University. At Warsaw University, she obtained her Ph.D in Journalism and Political Sciences in 2004. She was a professor 'Rhetorics and Stylistics' in the Section Journalism at Warsaw University. In 2001 and 2002 she participated in scientific congresses and programs at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Amsterdam University. She was a participant of a thinking group “Mind Europe” (organizers: Vlaams-Nederlands Huis De Buren). Maja Wolny took part in a Flemish training programme on cultural diversity called “Antena” (February- September 2005) and obtained the European Diploma on Cultural Project Management (Jun 2006).

From 1998 till 2002 Maja Wolny was a journalist at the weekly 'Polityka' where she was the chief of the literary section. She interviewed all the well-known Polish writers and wrote reviews on their work. Her articles were also published by a Flamish daily
De Morgen.

Her two novels: “Kara” (Proszynski,Warsaw, 2009) and “The House of thousands nights” (Proszynski,Warsaw, 2010,October) are dealing with the problem of migration and the challenges of intercultural relations between people.
She was the co-author of "Kronika smierci przedwczesnych" (Iskry, Warsaw, 2000), a collection of essays on Polish artists who died at an early age. Her doctoral study on "The language of success in politics and economics" was also published (Trio, Warsaw, 2005).

Maja Wolny founded in February 2004 'Post Viadrina' in Ghent, the Slavic Cultural Center in Belgium. 'Post Viadrina' is a bookshop, a location for cultural activities and a meeting point for all those looking for information on Eastern Europe.
There are regular visits of Eastern European writers to Post Viadrina. Furthermore, meetings are scheduled with Dutch speaking authors who write about Eastern Europe and with journalists who tell their stories based on their own exciting travels in the region. In 2006-2009 Maja Wolny was a lecturer and researcher in Artevelde High School, Ghent, faculty of journalism. She conducted the research on the media image of Polish migration in Belgium (2006-2008) and on burnout among journalists (2008-2009).
