MA Arts & Heritage; Cultural Policy Making, Management, Education
During my BA in European Studies, at the University of Maastricht, I was fortunate to spend my internship period at the Al’Ma-Mal Foundation of Contemporary Art in East Jerusalem. There my existing interests in contemporary arts in the political international arena were enriched. Since Al-Ma’mal, I have focused most of my research on the way in which contemporary art is consciously being used as an (activist) instrument to foster increased understanding of different cultures, in exhibitions and through urban artistic experimentation. By doing so, contemporary art’s involvement in social and political acts across the globe has in my opinion contributed to the development of visual communications between the central and peripheral areas.
The more recent internship positions I held in the framework of my MA program, at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, and now the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, reflect my continued search and interest into concepts of the re-positioning or re-inventing of our society in the present era, and as expressed through contemporary art. With these (inextricable) cultural and political interests in mind, my MA thesis assesses the subject of exclusiveness and paradoxes within the discourse of globalization – by deconstructing the contemporary art world.
