An interactive educational art project by Spanish artist Javier Velasco, it aims to sensitise schoolchildren about environmental issues and the effects of climate change, as well as creating awareness about sustainable lifestyles through contemporary art.

Hundreds of children and teenagers have been involved with this project. They produce a cut-out island from a newspaper page and watch it sink in the water. This not only helps them to visualise the threats of rising sea levels, but it also helps them to discover their own creativity, to feel empowered and involved in finding solutions.

The project is curated by Artport_Making Waves and was first presented during the UN Climate Change Conference COP16 in Cancun, Mexico, in December 2010. Schools, educational institutions, arts programmes and parents around the world are invited to participate in this playful educational tool.
