European Environment Agency (EEA)

Autore: Gunilla Redelius - Data: 04 nov 2010, 08:45

Based in Copenhagen, this EU agency serves as a major information source for those involved in developing, adopting, implementing and evaluating environmental policy, as well as the general public. Currently, the EEA has 32 member countries and the website offers information in 25 languages.

EEA’s mandate is two-fold:

  • to help the European community and member countries make informed decisions about improving the environment, integrating environmental considerations into economic policies and moving towards sustainability;
  • to coordinate the European environment information and observation network, Eionet – which supports the collection and organisation of data.

The agency serves EU institutions, the member states and also the business community, academia, non-governmental organisations and other parts of civil society.

In addition to its 32 members and six cooperating countries (Western Balkans), the EEA also cooperates and fosters partnerships with its neighbours and other countries and regions in the context of the EU Neighbourhood Policy.

The EEA website offers a wide range of information on environmental topics, publications, multimedia files and data and maps.
