On August 1, 2008, the IV International contemporary playwriting contest “Free Theatre” is announced open. This year the structure of the contest has undergone several changes – a new nomination “short plays and experimental texts for theatre” has been introduced. This nomination will let the fresh stream in the massive of theatre texts and will help the expansion of the experimental theatre base.
This year’s contest, the same as the previous one, accepts plays translated from other languages into Russian and Belarusian. The jury has considered the experience of integration of foreign language texts into the contest programme positive as assisting the expansion of the base of contemporary playwriting on post-Soviet space.
The chairman of the main jury at this year’s contest is Dainis Grinvalds, the head of the Latvian guild of playwrights and scriptwriters.

Plays are accepted till December 31, 2008.
