Training session: “Developing the art of sustainability in cultural centers”
We're excited to announce our upcoming three-day training/workshop on "DEVELOPING THE ART OF SUSTAINABILITY IN CULTURAL CENTERS"! The workshop will be co-hosted by the cultural organizations Mains d'Œuvres in Saint-Ouen and L'Avant Rue in Paris, from June 17-19, who hope to host as many as 25 participants from the cultural fields, from institution managers to artistic programmers, etc. This training workshop is part of CHANGING ROOM, a pilot project looking for new ways of increasing and enhancing the cross-border mobility of cultural operators in Europe.

Do you know exactly what sustainable development is and how it can be a way to show that creation is at the heart of change, of doing things another way? It’s also a potential strategy for running our cultural organizations, not only in an ecologically conscious way but also with economical and socio-cultural perspectives. Sustainable development means having a global vision in relation to our environment. Politicians try to define their plans through Agenda 21. Why shouldn't the cultural fields define their own plan for sustainable development? If you would like to take part in the development of our society and consider the long-term impact on your surroundings, all while improving your way of functioning, sustainable development could be an answer.
Come learn how to apply sustainable development globally, to all parts of your arts centre (building, staff, projects, audience…), acquire skills and tools for developing your own strategies, consider this strategy on a European level (in different cultures with different ways of running an art centre, and in different environments), and develop a long-term process, in multiple steps, depending on your capacities.
The training is based on a theoretical approach, case studies, and shared experience. The first step is becoming familiarized with sustainable development. Then, four small groups coached by 3 European facilitators, with the aid of a guideline, will work on developing a strategy for an hypothetical art center. At night, various artistic activities will reveal different ways to think about the economy, ecology and culture.
3 days of training is in no way enough to define a sustainable strategy. An Internet follow up of 6 months to a year will eventually be organized to provide the necessary continued support. We will work on a time-frame in the TEH meeting following the training to facilitate the continued exchange between the participants.
All training will be done in English.
The application must be completed online on the TEH website:
The deadline for all applications is April 30. Please feel free to contact Camille Dumas (Mains d'Œuvres) at camille@mainsdoeuvres.org, or Sarah Harper (L’Avant-rue) at sarah.harper@wanadoo.fr with any questions or to request more information.
Thank you for informing any members or partners of your organization who might be interested!
