
A foundation that works to maintain and develop the historical and cultural ties linking Portugal and the Orient, specifically China. The foundation has its headquarter in Lisbon, with delegations in Macao, India and East Timor.
Through its scholarship programmes , the foundation encourages research into social science and literature related to the Far East. It also promotes scientific exchanges between Portuguese and Oriental universities and scientific groups, and promotes knowledge of the languages and cultures of Portugal and the Orient. It stimulates artistic improvement and enables studies and professional training for Oriental students with limited financial means.
The foundation offers:
- Short-term scholarships for Portuguese citizens who wish to attend courses in Far Eastern countries, and to applicants from Far Eastern countries who wish to do the same in Portugal. Priority is given to the following areas: plastic arts, history, art history, design, photography, architecture, museum science and conservation and restoration (language courses are not eligible). Duration: 30 to 90 days.
- Annual scholarships for courses on Portuguese respective Oriental languages and cultures. Duration: one academic year.
- Research or doctorate scholarships on subjects connecting Far Eastern countries to Portugal, in any field of knowledge. Duration: 12 months.
