The Nederlands Theater Festival starts the new theatre season by presenting the 10 best shows from the previous season. These high points from Dutch theatre have been selected by a professional jury, led this year by Clairy Polak.
The Amsterdam Fringe Festival takes place at the same time on the outskirts of the Nederlands Theater Festival and emerged three years ago as an answer to the official theatre selection.
All the shows selected will be accompanied by English-language subtitling. The Fringe Festival offers an extensive ‘Language No Problem’ programme. The festival concludes with the Gala of Dutch Theatre.

The Nederlands Theater Festival takes place in Amsterdam from 3 to 13 September 2009. Online ticket sales and further information can be found on www.tf.nl.

This 10-day theatre event is the showcase of Dutch theatre and introduces the new season with an additional programme with masterclasses and filled with profundity and entertainment.
Alongside the official jury selection of 2009, the Nederlands Theater Festival also programmes the best from Flanders; shows that have been nominated for the Toneel Publieksprijs; youth theatre performances nominated for the Gouden Krekel (best youth-theatre show) and the TF Debutantes Ball.
Several awards will be presented at the festival, including the famous VSCD theatre prizes such as the als de Louis d’Or and the Theo d’Or, the BNG New Theatre Makers Prize and the Dioraphte Amsterdam Fringe Award.

The professional jury of the TF chooses the 10 best shows of the season from the whole range. The jury this year is led by Clairy Polak. The professional jury 2008 – 2009 also comprises the dramaturgs Steven Peters and Judith Wendel, former theatre producer and impresario Gislebert Thierens, theatre critics Joris van der Meer (Financieel Dagblad) and Liv Laveyne (Dagblad de Morgen and the weekly magazine Knack) and the director of the Huis van Bourgondië in Maastricht Piet Menu. The jury will announce its selection on 20 May 2009.

The Amsterdam Fringe Festival is based on the famous and successful fringe festivals as they are held in for instance Edinburgh, Adelaide, Prague and Dublin. The Fringe, which now includes dozens of shows in about 20 locations, is a festival within the Nederlands Theater Festival, where there is no jury to decide that only the theatre maker rules.

The Nederlands Theater Festival is for everyone who wants to see the absolute high points of 2009 theatre in 10 days. The Nederlands Theater Festival takes place this year from 3 to 13 September 2009 in Amsterdam, in the Stadsschouwburg and in Theater Bellevue. The Fringe also take place in many other venues.
