A unique institution in the history of Bulgarian society, it is the first grouping of secular cultural and community centres to offer equal participation and universal access to services on a democratic basis and without discrimination.
Chitalishte presents at least three specific institutional features - sustainability, legitimacy and flexibility. The existing network of approximately 3,600 Chitalishta constitutes a national treasure for Bulgaria. The website contains legal information, best practice examples and publications.
