Although it is expected that public funding for the arts and cultural programming will continueto shrink over the coming fiscal periods, we see no reason to do less because there is less money. Indeed, we from the Künstlerhaus understand our responsibility to the community asthat of finding new ways to enable creativity and define culture by supporting a very fragile and yet important sector of contemporary society: living artists.

In the short term, we seek:

• the reestablishment of the institution of the Artists’ House in and around the building occupied by the Artists’ Association from 1887 to 1945
• the creation of the foundation “Weimar Artists Quarter”
• the renovation of the building according to historical records and use the building according to our present needs:○ gallery○ workshop○ bistro “starving artist”○ garden

In the mid-term we will:

• revise the short term goals and refocus activity
• use the foundation as a tool to acquire and manage funds for:○ the reconstruction, expansion and maintenance of the house○ the development of its studios / living spaces○ co-financing art projects in Weimar with artists working in Weimar○ and to support artists in need through material, food and sleeping quarters

In the long-term we hope to:

• reshape the image of Weimar as one where the living arts are just as important as the historical arts. Concretely, we envision a “Künstlerviertel” in the center of the city based around the Künstlerhaus and the Coudraybau, a place defined not only by its colorful history but also by its contemporary presence.

Our Goals are:

• the restoration of the building both structurally and aesthetically
• continuous cultural programming involving exhibitions, theater, salons, workshops and residency programmes for curators and composers.
• the establishment of a bistro - “starving artist” as a Soup-Kitchen for poor artists and to serve tourists which enables the financing of the Künstlerhaus as well as the cateringof our events
• the establishment of an in-house print service (Kulturdrucker) for the reduction of internal production costs and distribution of artists’ books and prints
• the founding of the “Stiftung Künstlerviertel Weimar”
