“SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” is a nonprofit and nongovernmental organization founded in 2007. year on the initiative of a young and perspective man, Uros Derota, the president of the society, and which besides preserving national treasures, culture, and tradition, has for its mission to stop the continuous trend of young and perspective people leaving abroad and to inspire young people to take over the social responsibility and activity in their local environment.
“SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” became a member of International Dance Council CID – UNESCO in 2008. and succeeded in including Serbian folk dance into national dance. As a member, “SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” represents the whole Serbian folklore – it consults with UNESCO, national and local Government, as well as international organizations and institutions.
Organizing festivals, creative workshops, courses and congresses, “SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” represents an all-included organization, in the sense that it evolves on a different level from its members; it is connected with Cultural and Art Society “NOVI BEOGRAD”, PORTAL “FOKLORE SERBIA”, COREOGRAPHERS’ SOCIETY OF NATIONAL DANCES OF SERBIA (UKNIS) and ETHNOGRAPHICAL MUSEUM from Belgrade.
Reflecting the principles of the United Nations and UNESCO, “SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” is non-discriminatory organization, without prejudices concerning age, gender, race, religion, political or sexual affiliation or social status. It is strictly non-commercial; it has no products or services to sell. It is independent of any government, political ideology or economic interest.
“SUMADIJSKI OPANAK” treats all forms of dance on an equal basis. It does not promote a particular view of dance, recognizing its universal character as an art form, as a means of education and as a research subject.
It is open to membership, accepting organizations, institutions or persons with sufficient credentials.
