The author of interviews' summary

Corina ŞUTEU is an expert, consultant and trainer in the field of cultural cooperation and cultural policies. She is currently director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York. For nine years, she was director of the European Master's degree in cultural management at the Business School in Dijon, France. She also served as President of the Forum of European Cultural Networks for five years. In 1995, she initiated the first regional training programme in cultural management for Eastern European professionals: the ECUMEST programme. She also founded the ECUMEST Association, of which she is currently president.

The interviewer

Simona CHITAN is cultural editor of "Evenimentul zilei", one of the main newspapers in Romania, based in Bucharest. She has a BA from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies in Bucharest (1999) and an MA in Management of Press Institutions from Bucharest University (2005). She is also the co-author of a monograph dedicated to Romanian actor Victor Rebengiuc, published in 2004.

The researcher

Radu MĂLUREANU is researcher and deputy director of the Centre for Research on Culture at the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs, Romania. He also teaches social research methods at the Faculty of Sociology, University of Bucharest. Currently he is preparing his PhD thesis on the theme of Public opinion leaders, social networks and cultural information dissemination: their role in community life development. He has formerly collaborated with Transparency International, Romania, United Nations Development Programme and the Romanian Academic Society (SAR), where he was in charge of designing and conducting various research and study programmes.

The artist

Ciprian MUREŞAN is a visual artist living in Cluj, Romania. He is co-editor of VERSION artist-run magazine, and since 2005 editor of IDEA art + society magazine. His recent exhibitions include: Small Wonder at the Andreiana Mihail Gallery in Bucharest and a solo show, Ciprian says, at the Prometeo Gallery in Milan. His works were recently exhibited at the David Nolan Gallery in New York, which presented Across the Trees: Romanian Art Now, an exhibition featuring the work of six young artists from Cluj.

The policy maker

Virgil-Ştefan NIŢULESCU is Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs. He is also Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Letters, University of Bucharest; Chairperson of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Romanian National Committee; Editor of the International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC) in ICOM; and Vice-Chairperson of the Advisory Council of ICOM. His expertise covers the fields of cultural heritage and legislation in the field of culture. He is the author of numerous articles in these areas, published both in Romania and abroad.

The film producer

Ada SOLOMON is a film producer at Bloc Film, HiFilm Productions. She is also founder and executive manager of NeXT Cultural Society, established in the memory of young filmmakers Cristian Nemescu and Andrei Toncu. She initiated the NexT Film Festival, which was launched in 2007. Her projects include collaborations with filmmakers like Cristian Nemescu, Cristian Mungiu, Răzvan Rădulescu, Radu Jude and Alexandru Solomon.

The art critic and curator

Alina ŞERBAN is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), and has a special interest in studying artistic movements in Central and Eastern Europe in the 1944-1965 period. She is also editor of the monthly Arhitext magazine on architecture and design (Bucharest) and contributes many essays and critical texts to international magazines. Her most recent curatorial projects include the exhibitions: Diversiuni Minimale, Galeria Vector, Iasi; Motion Parade, Fotogalerie Wien, Vienna; and Indirect Speech, Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel in 2006. Curently she is involved in the programme "SocialEast Seminar", MIRIAD, Manchester, where she is researching Romanian socialist realism.
