The Impact of International Mobility on Arts Education from Art Students Perspective

Auteur: Lidia Varbanova - Date: 20 sept 2006, 19:56

This report presents the results of a working session on the "impact of international mobility on arts education from a student's perspective" held in Tilburg during the 2003 ELIA Conference "Learning Abroad in the Arts". One of the main issues discussed was the results of a survey conducted among art students claiming that "international mobility is a factor in student's ambition to achieve a rounded career as a professional artist and that a variety of educational experiences abroad boost the individual growth of the arts student". The participants of the session supported these claims and further added that international students bring new energies to the schools both in terms of their cultural differences and their educational approach to specific arts disciplines. One of the main problems identified is the lack of mutual recognition of degrees which impedes international mobility. Provocative voices questioning the necessity of international studies are presented.
