Since 2004, an EU Commissioner's portfolio includes a multilingualism policy that is also integrated in the structure of the EC's Directorate-General for Education and Culture.
The EU considers its many languages as an asset and actively promotes the freedom of its citizens to use their own language. On this website you will find the EU language policy frameworks and legislation, funding opportunities, links to networks (notably those defending minority and regional languages) and all about language learning and teaching.
