The Statistical Office of the European Communities provides the EU with harmonised statistics at a European level.
Under the auspices of the European Commission, in addition to cooperating closely with international organisations such as the United Nations and OECD, it works with countries outside the EU, notably in Eastern Europe and Africa. Eurostat is setting up a service of regular collection and analysis of cultural data and trends at the European level within its Population and Social Conditions thematic section, which also includes statistics on tourism and information society.
