Conceived as a nomadic contemporary art biennial, it has grown into a flexible international organisation based in Amsterdam.
Manifesta connects independent initiatives and projects and simultaneously works to develop new audiences for contemporary art and to stimulate new approaches to artistic production and exhibition. The itinerant biennial responds to changing artistic imperatives and a diversity of social, political and geographical goals and interests.
