An opera project created around the traditional Bosnian musical tradition of Sevdah, which brings together singers and musicians of many different cultures and religions to spread a message of cultural collaboration and communication through music and the human voice.

In 2004, Opera Circus were invited to help realise a dream. Some artists and producers from Bosnia and elsewhere had the idea of creating an opera inspired by the traditional Bosnian musical tradition, Sevdah.

Creating Sevdah Opera has not just been about commissioning the chamber opera itself, but about creating an ensemble of artists from many religions and races to produce a beautiful chamber opera that will hopefully tour the world, and to spread a message of cultural collaboration and communication through music and the human voice.

The instrumentalists and singers live in Croatia, Bosnia, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK and the creative team in Canada, the USA, Scotland, Spain and the UK.
