As the global financial crisis spreads and national governments move to stimulate and shelter their domestic economies, is a protectionist backlash inevitable? How might protectionist pressures be reduced? What policies might spur greater trade and build more support for open markets?

The Salzburg Global Seminar invites you to submit an essay that addresses these critical questions.
A jury of faculty members will choose up to five winners from the essays submitted. Each will receive a scholarship of 3,300 Euro to cover accommodations, meals, economy class travel and participation fee for Session 464, Confronting Protectionism: How Business and Governments Can Build Support for Open Markets (September 29-October 4, 2009).

To enter, entries should be sent (in English and no more than 1000 words) to tlintouskaya@SalzburgGlobal.org, by July 15, 2009. Winners will be announced by August 15, 2009.
