Encounters alongside the Bosporus – is the new publication by writer Irene van der Linde and photographer Nicole Segers and explores the two sides of Istanbul, the European Capital of Culture in 2010.
The city is a meeting place between East and West. Just like the ferry across the Bosporus, Turkey is situated between two continents. One of the central themes of the book is whether the country shifts direction into Europe or towards Asia. The authors quote a Turkish opera singer who exclaims, ‘L Europe? Pourqoui?’.
Currently the photographic work of Nicole Segers is being exhibited at the Kunsthal Rotterdam, Netherlands, in an solo show entitled, “Encounters alongside the Bosporus”.
