Zubin Mehta, Roddy Doyle, Kurt Masur and Jessye Norman. These are just a few of the world renowned artists that Breandáin O'Shea has interviewed in his career as an arts journalist. Breandáin came to radio in the '90s as producer and host of DW-RADIO's weekly arts magazine, "Arts on the Air". The program was awarded a gold medal at the New York Festivals for the most outstanding radio series featuring art and culture. Then in 2002 he created, launched and led a team of journalists in a new series of programs called “Inspired Minds”. The radio program is accompanied by a comprehensive internet site that includes profiles, autobiographic material and interviews. Inspired Minds was also a finalist in the New York Festival Radio Awards.
Additionally Breandáin has written diverse features on European minorities (The Catalans, Irish Travellers), festivals (Weimar, Verbier, and London) and life in European capitals. His expertise in the arts stems from the fact that Breandáin himself is a performer and studied singing with some of Europe's leading teachers. He has also worked professionally as a composer, orchestral flautist and jazz pianist.
