Or a story about that how I hated and started to like Web 2.0 interface.
Sorry, no coolish intro!
Sure, when I've started to use all of these services I was suspicious cause I thought, this is too much even for completely plugged-in person who is online from 1996.
‘Really, but what will happen with design and visual creativity?! Gimme back that Web 1.0 design look!!! I can not work with so many accounts! I don’t want a blog! I have less time for my self, so I’m not going to spend more of my precious free time again on internet. Just, gimme more of this unlimited download option. Well, I’m too cool for that, you know!‘
These were just some of my thoughts which have had occurred through my mind.
At first, I was turned on with online portfolios (photography, graphic art, lomography, etc), because it meant that I don’t have to build my own web pages, and then there were so many creative people out there just waiting to exchange ideas.
Still suspicious.
I’ve red many critics about MySpace without even visiting the actual site and after a while I simply decided to work on my art project Free Fall Artisans and build a MySpace profile. Just to check what is this all about.
I have to admit, I haven’t had any idea at that time about the actual number of artists from many different branches which were / are actually MySpace users… and one digital galaxy has opened to me…
Still suspicious.
Of course, tones and tones of wastefulness and stupidity, which you can simply avoid by not reading it, just like you do with printed junk.
‘Oh, I can’t breathe anymore… so many spam…’
Yeah, probably you heard it more times then you actually saw good web pages.
Still suspicious.
Then I realized that my mail box is congested with great newsletters from different galleries, artists, museums, portals, etc. Great, really, but annoying in huge amounts… and my decision was made… use everything you can to make your digital life easier and more effectively.
So, what I want to point out now is that all of these tools entitled Web 2.0 are not something to be terrified with, because they can make your life quite easier if you learn how to use it: Google Reader, RSS Aggregates, alternative Social Networks, del.icio.us, technorati, Wikipedia, diigo, dig.it, giants like Face Book and MySpace, Flickr, Last.fm, blogger.com, StumbleUpon, Grooveshark, the latest social browser Flock… commercial or alternative services, just name it… or just decide to spend some time on internet tools education and after a while you will have more time for your off-line activities, but completely sure that you are not missing anything in cyber space.
I have now about 20 different accounts (I’m not a geek), I simply like to explore interesting content which makes me more creative.
And I’m not suspicious anymore to media because I am reading a content made by users which was crucial for my acceptance of Web 2.0.
