This study shows the transformation of cultural policies in several countries after 1989. The change of socialist systems led the cultural policies to rethinking of their role. Fundamental change was required. This book analyses on the basis of primary sources how the cultural policies and the sphere of culture have been changed in Russia, Ukraine, Poland and East Germany.

This publication explores the transformation of cultural policies in terms of:
− content (what has to be achieved in the cultural policies?),
− purpose (what has to be achieved with the cultural policies?),
− object of the cultural policies
− and the role of the state in the cultural policy.

Maria Davydchyk untersucht die Transformation, Ergebnisse und Besonderheiten der kulturpolitischen Veränderungen in Russland, der Ukraine, Polen und auf dem Gebiet der ehemaligen DDR. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, wie die Transformation der Kulturpolitik charakterisiert werden kann und welche Dimensionen dieser Prozess umfasst. Anhand einer historisch angelegten Forschung der Primärquellen zur sozialistischen und postsozialistischen Kulturpolitik sowie einer qualitativen Expertenbefragung in Sankt Petersburg, Lwiw, Krakau und Weimar stellt die Autorin Veränderungen in ihren Divergenzen und Kongruenzen beispielhaft dar.
