The award is given for works of art in the field of painting, sculpture, graphics, drawing, installation, photography, video, new media and performance.
Candidates have to hold Bosnian citizenship.
The selection criteria is based on quality and innovativeness in the works of art created in the last two years.
The award consists of a six-week residence in New York and a solo exhibition upon their return in Art Gallery of BiH in Sarajevo. The exhibition has to reflect the experience gained during the residence in US.
SCCA decided that the name of the award would be ZVONO as a tribute to the artists' group formed in Sarajevo in 1982 that was active until the outbreak of war in 1992.
ZVONO is based on the highly successful Chalupecký model that has been replicated in several countries: a transparent competition for artists under 35 selected by an independent and changing jury, an exhibition of the award finalists at a prestigious gallery or museum, an award ceremony, and a travel fellowship to the United States followed by a solo exhibition of the winner upon his/her return.
The aim is to provide support to young creative artists and facilitate the continuation of their activities by shifting them from the marginal to a central role in society by creating a positive context for young artistic creativity and innovativeness.
The award was conceived as a new and prestigious gathering point for the most creative forces of the contemporary scene, locally, where the award is being awarded, but also regionally, in the countries where the award is acknowledged.
