It was set up by the European Commission and national units established by education ministries in all countries taking part in the EU education programme, Socrates. It includes several detailed databases and search engines, and also carries out research on themes including: foreign language teaching in schools; school measures for the children of migrants; information and communication technologies in education; and citizenship and intercultural education.
