The author consulted some institutionally affiliated cultural experts for this examination of the impact of EU enlargement on cultural policy in the new member states. Obuljen acknowledges the obstacles that exist and feels it is too early to assess certain processes fully. She argues for further research, especially of a more policy-oriented kind, and also for greater consideration by the EU of the need for cultural aspects to be better integrated in its policymaking. The author won the European Cultural Foundation's Cultural Policy Research Award 2005, which enabled the report to be compiled and published.
