“ Individual Utopias Now and Then” is one of the four recently launched cooperation projects by the new regional Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans office in Sarajevo.
This project asks the question “what do we have in common?” and looks for the gaps that have created discontinuity in cross-border and cross-generational dialogue in the region. Three independent organisations came together to put this idea into action: T.I.C.A. (Albania), SSCA / Pro.Ba (Bosnia and Herzgovina) and Kuda.org (Serbia).
Different generational groups, including young creators, will be portrayed on their utopias and ideas of future using panoply of media formats: narrative video workshops, comparative case studies, TV documentary series and web based archive platform.
Questions asked are quite challenging and crucial as there are negative and positive sides to one’s visions: what are today’s utopias for people in the Balkans? Is there a place for dreams after all divisions? And what do they have in common?
The authors would like to re-introduce the notion of utopia in their societies and possibly reactivate the lost hierarchy of social values.
Art is a great open place to (re)create and express utopias. Thus I am very much looking forward to the outcomes of this project! Hopefully due attention will be paied to the public discussion and dissemination of results so the authors´ utopia will be better achieved.
