A 2004 keynote conference speech by Joost Smiers, a professor at the Utrecht School of the Arts, delivered in the context of a British-Japanese textile artist exchange project and exhibition. The essay examines concepts of reciprocity, institutional cultural cooperation and cultural intermingling and contains many points of interest for organisers and artists engaged in cultural exchange. Also includes a useful annex on copyright and a good, short bibliography.
