The Sámi Art Festival (2008-2010) discusses political and economical structures that work in the Northern areas. We are entering the Sámi and a Northern geography by harnessing the festival format and taking time to explore topics such as autonomy, trauma and market.
These topics will be explored by small groups of artists, curators and theorists through different activities in the period from June 2008 to March 2009.
In a next phase (autumn 2009) the processed material from the activities will be mediated in an exhibition and a publication. The project ends spring 2010 and aims to increase the consciousness of what arts takes part in in the North. The work will altogether reflect on the arts’ potentials to resist and nuance.
The Sámi Art Festival is initiated by Sámi Dáiddacehpiid Searvi (The Sámi Artists Union).
