SQUID archive is on display from September 4 to September 26 as a part of the exhibition Plattform at Röda Sten in Göteborg (Sweden). The first edition of Platform features a selection of the following three proposals:

  • Sara-Vide Ericson - the exhibition features works from the painting series Rida (2010) and Hilla (2009), as well as the collaborative film project Tyska Tårar – Before the Porch Roof Falls Down on Us – a film which addresses issues of gender and nationalism. The film is made by Sara-Vide Ericson, Hilda Ekeroth and Iris Smedt, and produced by Huluboda Art Association;
  • Janna Holmstedt - the exhibition features Environmental Dependency Syndrome, an interactive video installation, and SQUID, a collaborative project by Janna Holmstedt, Katja Algert and Martijn van Berkum in the form of an online archive of texts written by professionals from the cultural field; and
  • Pre-Specifics: Access X! - a two-phase project conducted by Onomatopee för Röda Sten and curated by Freek Lomme (NL) and Michael Capio (US). Phase I at Röda Sten has the objective to process stances, formulate objectives, strategies and vocabulary.

The SQUID archive facilitates space for what we can call the parallel knowledge that emerges from an investigative, creative process. It was launched because organisers thought this project emphasised a lack of representation of the specific kind of content. They felt a need to contribute with an expanded perspective on what knowledge related to the cultural field could be about. Finally they felt an urge to create their own context where they could act freely in different directions within the field mentioned above.

SQUID also creates a framework for public events and other live happenings. One of these events is going on at Röda Sten where you can sit down and read texts, browse the website, print out your favourites, listen to sound files, and have a coffee in the restaurant. The archive can be visited till September 26 during opening hours - Tue-Sun: 12-5 pm, and Wed: 12-7 pm.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition Platform the SQUID project was presented and followed by live readings of two of the most recently released texts: Pojken, by Meira Ahmemulic (Berlin) and OPERATION: Sagan om den Stora Datan – Akt I, by Anna Lundh (Stockholm and NYC).

If you are not in Göteborg feel free to browse the website and enjoy reading. You can search texts chronologically, by author and thematically
