Final event of the project Intercultural Dialogue - Creative Laboratories will take place April 7th and 8th in The Drum, Birmingham (UK).

Are you an artist looking to develop international partners or want to hear how others created work in Europe? If the answer is "yes", then this event is for you.

It is interchat, a dialogue on arts and communities with local and international perspectives.

Two days of intensive discussions and sessions will bring together a variety of prominent actors from Europe: Airan Berg, Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture (Austria); François Matarasso (UK); Fundacja Pogranicze (Poland); Laundry artists Brendan Jackson, Alicja Rogalska, Beverley Harvey, along with project evaluator Steve Trow and four bursary award artists who have participated in international exchanges (UK); Nova Kultura (Bulgaria) and many others.

First day (Wednesday 7th April, 2pm - 8pm) will be of specific interest to artists and practitioners (whether as individuals or as part of an organisation) wishing to develop their practice in the context of community engagement and cultural exchange. Artist-led sessions to explore good practice in community engagement projects, with local and international examples from Birmingham, Bulgaria, Crete and Poland, aimed at artists and practitioners wishing to develop their community practice with an international perspective.

The second day (Thursday 8th April, 10am – 4pm) organisers prepare a dialogue with Airan Berg and François Matarasso, exploring European approaches to artistic practices that invite social engagement. The debate will investigate how this engagement informs the creative process and the artwork. The symposium will highlight case studies from arts organisations in Birmingham that work in innovative ways within cross-cutting agendas to create art that is relevant to particular communities. This day will be of interest to artists and agencies addressing cross-cutting agendas through the arts.

interchat is organised by Laundry in partnership with Birmingham City Council and The Drum.
