Today the European Festivals Association (EFA) launches the FestLab within the Forum for Creative Europe and in the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. This initiative entrusts festivals as nests for fostering artistic creativity and innovation.
25 European festivals have already said yes to this mission and will be carrying a FestLabPass symbolizing their commitment. Yet, other festivals are welcome to become partners throughout the year and share their most innovative and creative projects.
Art festivals are privileged environments for experimentation and the FestLab intends precisely to support them to join forces and enter in new collaborations. There are many ways to engage in this task: promotion of new modes of governance and partnerships; enhancement of the mobility of artistic ideas and works, especially those of young creators; incentive to cross-disciplinary and interactive projects; attention to professional training and educational schemes; and promotion of accessibility and inclusion in respect to audiences.
At the end of the FestLab journey there might well be a rich resource pool of experiences and new models and tools for the development of transnational practices and collaborations. Certainly it will also inspire a bunch of brand new great ideas and interesting art works.
The Sarajevo Winter Festival, running at the moment, is the first festival to take place holding the FestLab flag. Many others will follow.
Keep track of this trip throughout Europe in EFA´s/FestLab website.
LabforCulture.org will also keep an eye and report on the outcomes.
Enjoy and get inspired!
