Soraia is an up and coming artist, originally born in Lisbon; she is based in the UK since her teens. With a passion for unusual materials and techniques, she explores loose abstract themes and ideas within her works, investigating questions of identity and sexuality, the nature of freedom, power and morality, rather than current art trends or prevalent ideas. This exploration instigates the creation of the artwork and are central to her practice.
Soraia’s work is one based on experimentation and escapism, through abstract ideas and materials, the artist escapes from herself and her lives’ uncertainties seeking refuge in her works filled with colour, texture and depth, and unlike herself, depicting ideas of contentment, happiness and ease.
Soraia has recently been part of the Elephant Parade, a major public art event and awareness campaign in London and has recently been selected to compete in the World's Largest Art Prize.
