Blog: Blog

I like this convergence of internal self-motivated tasks and external social occurrences that sometimes happen, as i'm going through the process of preparing the course guide for the workshops on photo publishing - wePOD (we Print on Demand)> from artists books to blogs and p.o.d. [the 4th space of distributed publishing] which was the Brief-led project (Year 3) of the Ba in Digital Photography at the London South Bank University.

I've run a prototype 12 week workshop in october -december 2006 and i'm going through the process of revising & updating the course's blog and activities at the same time as the pixel & paper workshop is taking place at the documenta 12

Wepod will now run oct-dec 2007 as part both of the 2nd and 3r year curriculum and will be part of a pilot study on web 2.0 / in higher education being piloted at the London South Bank University within the Digital Photography and Digital Media Art departments.

If you have any relevant information/ work/ projects that you want to share please leave it here as comment or email it to roushp at lsbu dot ac dot uk.

It's been really interesting to explore the possibilities of print on demand (pod) for photopublishing and on the course's blog there is a total section on working with lulu.com which was our choice for several reasons including the extremely low price (i'm now publishing a full colour 200 pages A5 landscape book for £20!) and the very useful personalised online store (available to each publisher), which is a feature not yet added to any other pod platforms we looked into, like lightening source , or the new ones photobox.co.uk or bobbooks.co.uk

The only exception is blurb.com that not only prints in the best paper but also gives an online store page; however because they havent sorted out the distribution in europe it all comes up a heavy price tag.
