Iwona Kobryń answers one of the most fundamental questions in modern art – should one follow pure abstraction or return to figural forms.

Through schematic figures placed in an unreal space, the painter depicts the abstract - emotions, feelings and inner states of the mind. At a first glance, Iwona’s paintings are quite obvious and simple. The usage of intense colours and a distinct drawing line allows the paintings to become beautiful, decorative items. However, under the layer of decorativeness are the symbols – human figures transferred from the real world. They are nameless wanderers who are exploring the land of pure colours, tones and brightness. Who is the prototype of these symbols, shadows? We are – as taken by Iwona into her distinct chord of colour. Through their brightness and intensity, the paintings emanate energy across their frames. Yet, there are times when the flickering frame appears to be present. Sometimes it is a shield of the valuable contents, other times a border of the worlds invisible to the viewer.

Iwona Kobryń is sharing with us her experience of nirvana. She depicts existence without time and name, without direction, aim, pressure or stress. Such art is both soothing in its form and exhilarating in its content.
