ArtFunkl: An Artists Residence and Collective

ArtFunkl is an artists residency and initiative founded in Manchester, UK, by Ju Underwood. The project is located in a townhouse in the leafy, residential Whalley Range area of the city, and is focused on providing the opportunity for visiting artists to concentrate and combine their energies in an alternative environment. It forms a constantly mutating collective, bringing creative people together for periods of time to work side by side or collaboratively.
The overall mission is to challenge perceptions about how Art is made and exhibited by devising unconventional scenarios for introducing ideas into the public realm. The purpose of the venue is to become a hub of discussion and activities, bringing Art into the local community, and beyond, and challenging standard perceptions about processes, realization and exhibition of Art.
The residency programme is concentrated on emerging artists who are enthusiastic about challenging their practice, and allowing critical discussion to be a catalyst for development. Cross-pollination between disciplines is very much encouraged. Artists will be expected to engage with the Manchester context, and show a commitment to producing high quality work, contributing to the pool of creative activity already taking place in the environment.
