"The country of my childhood"

We talked to Bartosz Szydłowski a few minutes ago. He is the general director of the "Nowa Łaźnia Theatre" in Nowa Huta. We cathched him during a coffee break and immediately we felt a kind of an itellectual conection with this nice man. He wisely told us about the meaning of some contemporary keywords like "freedom", "democracy" etc. He simply went: "In practice everything seems to be totally different than the meanings of slogans."

Bartosz is an appreciated cultural activists and therefore obtains many invitations to conferences and seminars. And he tells people about his work. He doesn't fall in useless theoretical reflections.

Relating to the social aspects of his actions implemented in Nowa Huta he told that it is impossible to separate the artistic field from the social one: "These actions are for the people, they strenghten their identity." He emphasise his personal sentiment to Nowa Huta, his little motherland which has tough historical experiences. "This is the country of my childhood, I grew up there and I know what it's like to spend your time sitting on a bench surrounded by those blocks of flats."
