Call for partners - European Literature Prize 2009
Call for partners in

European Union Culture Programme 2007 – 2013 launched a call for participation in the Annual European Union Prize for Literature in 2009. The Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest, through its European network in 14 European countries, would like to be the organizer of this programme, and is now searching for local and national co-organizers and partners.

The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) is a public institution under the honorific presidency of the President of Romania whose main purpose is to promote the national culture and civilization in Romania and abroad, and to encourage cultural exchanges and intercultural dialogue.

Since 2003, the Romanian Cultural Institute has expanded its activities, placing particular emphasis on the encouragement of young talent and the promotion of Romanian cultural values internationally, through the ICR network abroad, in Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Istanbul, Lisbon, London, Madrid, New York, Paris, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, Tel-Aviv, Venice, Vienna, and Warsaw.

Through its intense European representation and activity, the Romanian Cultural Institute achieved considerable know-how, and is currently an operational network, actively involved in putting in the international circulation of contemporary Romanian artists, and cultural products, also in cultural projects development in Europe. Our experience and willingness in organizing literature festivals, workshops, artistic residences, conferences, seminars, book presentations etc, at European level, is a valuable background which we intend to capitalize on, together with you, by submitting to EU the project for organizing the European Literary Prize in 2009.

The selection for this prize involves organizing a competition in each of the 34 countries included in the project (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the UK). For a complete and correct representation of all these countries in the competition, the proper implementation of the project depends on local cultural operators’ involvement, playing an important role in assuring the quality of the national selection of the representative writers, also in a better suitability of the project to the local cultural reality. By sharing this responsibility with us, should our project be selected for funding, your organization becomes partner of EU, having real image profit on European level, the administration of a part of EU grant. Also, participation in this project, alongside ICR and other national partners, is a basis for establishing contacts and long-time cooperation with many other organizations and personalities, active in the European book sector (writers, editors, publishers, journalists, cultural managers, etc).

As a co-organizer in this project, your organization will implement the project on national level, consisting in national promotion of ELP 2009 and maintaining the relation with local mass media through press releases, reception and registration of applications sent by the candidate writers, coordination of the national selection process (logistics support for the jury members, centralizing and sending the results of the jury), logistics assistance for the European jury process, communication with ICR project coordinators. Your financial involvement in this project could consist of total or partial cover of the cost categories as: national dissemination of the informative products, multiplication of the necessary documentation for the jury members, payment of the project assistants, payment for the national jury members, financial support for the nationally selected writers for the European representation.

As a partner in this project, your participation would consist of designation of the three – five members of the national jury, and making a proposal for the national representative personality for the ELP Ambassador, coming with your know how and with logistics support in jury process. Participation in the project as a partner does not suppose financial involvement from the part of your organization.

As the deadline for applications in EU Culture Programme 2007 – 2013 is 31 July 2008, an indicative answer by 14 July will be greatly appreciated.

Hoping that you will consider our proposal and deem this project beneficial for your organization, we look forward to close future collaboration.
