MITOTE ORCHESTRA
Trash for some... wealth for others!!!.

My name is Daniel Sanchez, Im a mexican composer, percussionist and lecturer, better known by my project Orquesta Mitote.

Mitote search the union between the individuals and the comunitty. Tradicionally Mitote is a nahuatl ancestral circular dance. It’s also the cloud and snake symbol, representing the union between heaven and earth. So Mitote is a fertility dance.
Now, Mitote its a comunitty based project that use art to develop a planetary belonging feeling. A lot of people dont got the posibility to express using art and this is something that I want to change with my work. I form percussion and theatre groups, creating musical and theatre instruments, made with solid disposable material, using the collective memory transmition through the arts. This experience fuse Ecology, Music and Theatre, in a natural melting-pot between these are intrinsical elements of human evolution. These groups are democratic and creative structures, social welfare systems and a planetary awareness vehicle.
All the social and individual activities are ruled by rhythm, so communication and art share this kind of elements. Man has created music and theatre as a social activity in direct relationship with his environment. To organize my groups, I use non material heritage and non verbal languages, which emphasizes and promotes ecological sensibility, social integrity, cultural plurality and develops a continuously team participation. This activity is therefore transformed into an exercise based on order and humility, while materializing physical well-being immediately through sound and action. Mitote is for all kinds of people. Supported by music and theatre, they’ll develop team and rhythmic sense. Recycling will develop hand creativity and ecological consciousness.
On the other hand modern societies, force us to stay alert against their voracity. The ephemeral quality of our environment, and our economy defense, show us the great value inside the recycling culture, making us aware of the difference between production and consume.

At the end of this experience, the participants will be able to reproduce new Mitotes, and the social benefits will multiply, offering an opportunity to live together peacefully and harmonically with our planet.
In my opinion Mitote is the ideal way to achieve this, based as it is on Culture as a group of signs molding communities, demonstrably more than a mere use-value.

Until now I have done Mitotes in Mèxico, Italy, Colombia, Japan, Uruguay, Spain, Austria and Canada.

The mexican president, Felipe Calderon H., granted Mitote Orchestra with the National Prize to the Ecological Merit 2011, top distinction in the environmental field in Mexico.

I´ll love to do new Mitotes with the Labforculture peers!.

ORQUESTA MITOTE.
¨ La basura de unos... la riqueza de otros!!! ¨.

Mi nombre es Daniel Sanchez, soy un compositor, percusionista y conferencista mexicano, mejor conocido por mi proyecto Orquesta Mitote.

Mitote busca la uniòn entre el individuo y la comunidad usando el arte. Tradicionalmente Mitote es una danza de fertilidad Nahuatl, de origen pre- hispànico, que busca la uniòn entre el cielo y la tierra. Ahora, mi proyecto Mitote es un ejercicio comunitario basado en el arte para fomentar un sentido de pertenencia, creando puentes entre mùsica, teatro y ecologìa al hacer instrumentos escénicos y musicales con materiales reciclados. Mucha gente no tiene la posibilidad de expresarse usando el arte y esto es algo que quiero cambiar con mi trabajo.

Con el apoyo de la UNESCO, entre otros, he realizado Mitotes en Mèxico, Italia, Colombia, Japón, Uruguay, España, Austria y Canadà.

El presidente de la república mexicana Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, en 2011 otorgó a Orquesta Mitote el Premio Nacional al Mérito Ecológico, máxima distinción en materia ambiental en México.
