Performings Arts Curator and Festival Manager since 1988.
Born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1968, Jeffrey Meulman has been active in the cultural sector since 1986. He has been a punk poet, a stage builder, a barker at the De Parade festival, a technician, a producer, a floor manager, a ticket vendor, a presenter, a counsellor for artists, a theatre producer, a civil servant, a magician, a chairperson, a publicity officer, a treasurer, a secretary, a dancing bear in his own circus tent, an artistic adviser, a member of the corporate staff of studium generale, a radio reporter and a journalist.
Furthermore, he was also the coordinator of the Doe Maar Dicht Maar youth poetry festival, managing director of the Winterschrift literature festival, and a programmer with the municipal theatre, the het Kruithuis theatre and the Noorderzon summer festival in the Dutch city of Groningen. For six years he worked as a comedian with Raoul Heertje's Comedytrain. As a freelancer he was involved with the organisation of a large number of cultural projects, contests and manifestations, including A Star is Born.
From January 1999 to September 2003, he was the general and artistic manager of, and thus responsible for, the Huis a/d Werf theatre and the Festival a/d Werf theatre festival in Utrecht. During this period the Huis a/d Werf made several successful productions, such as Cooking with Elvis, Oleg! Oleg! Oleg!, The Worlds of Milosh and Mondo Leone. During the 2002 - 2003 season the Huis a/d Werf underwent a large-scale renovation with the support of the European Community.
In 2003 Jeffrey chaired the Het Vierde Kwartaal, an association that looks after the interests of the Dutch summer festivals. In January 2004 he became chair of the Adviescommissie Regeling Festivals en Concoursen of the Fonds voor Podiumprogrammering en Marketing.
Since November 2005 Jeffrey is the general director of festival TF-1 presenting The Best Of Dutch and Flemish Theatre in Amsterdam, also including TF-2: the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. He is also the artistic leader of Nieuwe Grond, a small scale international festival for political theatre under the wings of the Vrede van Utrecht.
Jeffrey has given and still gives lectures and guest lectures in the Netherlands and abroad and has written several articles, teaching methods, interviews and columns.
