“Let’s talk European!” media summit was held last Saturday in Prague, initiated by www.signandsight.com. Chief editors from all over Central Europe discussed: is the European public sphere is myth or reality; how to make sure that European policy issues are covered by national media; how to involve users and motivate their interaction online; how to improve the creation of collaborative contet online, especially between newspapers and magazines from neighboring countries, how can international media networks be extended.
Important points were raised such as: the need to enhance European debates and create better channels of communication between neighboring countries; the importance of language diversity in Europe and the need to keep interaction between each others, using English as an intermediary tool; the need for initiating exchange programs for editors, tensions between government support for media and market principles; the danger of creating content predetermined by a funding policy; the importance of knowing more about what readers and users want to hear; the editorial policies for selecting and publishing content delivered by users.
