A network of researchers from both humanistic and social science disciplines. Through cross-cultural interdisciplinary examination of the importance of the environment to human societies, it works to develop an analytical framework to create solutions to the current environmental crisis.
The work is carried out in a two-fold process. On the one hand, the study looks at the environment itself and how it is affected by technological innovations, human population, economic decline in rural areas, etc. On the other hand, it looks at the understanding of how nature and the environment are conceived and understood through language and image.
Texts are drawn from nature writing, poetry and fiction, landscape art and architecture, popular cultural images, narratives of landscape technologies and cartography, among others.
