Methodology & acknowledgements

Our approach for this Research in focus was to look at diverse viewpoints on the topic of climate change and the arts. We asked an artist, a curator, a researcher and a diplomat to share their views and we present their thoughts to you as part of this Research in focus. As a result of our collective research efforts, we also identified several artistic projects, as well as organisations and networks in Europe and beyond, that are dealing effectively with issues of climate change and sustainability.

We would like to thank the following artists, experts and professionals who took part in the preparation of this Research in focus on behalf of LabforCulture. We value their creative input, fresh ideas and critical reflections:

  • Anne Sophie Witzke, Project manager, ReThink
  • Cheryl Harper, Independent curator, USA
  • David Buckland, Cape Farewell
  • Helena DrnovÅ¡ek-Zorko, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Japan
  • Michaela Crimmin, Independent curator
  • Ole Madsen, Managing director, The Alexandra Institute, Denmark
  • Peter Gingold, Co-director: TippingPoint
  • Sacha Kagan, Cultura21

During the course of our research, we paid special attention to the use of blogs as a way to increase the visibility of artistic projects related to climate change, as well as mobilising public efforts to live more sustainably. We examine the issue of their usability and impact, not only among artistic circles, but also beyond these circles. This collection of resources does not pretend to be comprehensive and complete. Its importance is mainly in the notion of collaborative research efforts, which we find extremely valuable.
