call for proposals - Paradox Bay : Artists Symposium in Chicago

Paradox Bay is gearing up for its GATHERING 2009 | SHAKING IT UP, taking place in Chicago, June 14-21.

The Gathering is an invitation to experience and dialogue. Its hybrid form of conference, research lab, and think tank creates a supportive setting for taking risk and going beyond notions of success and failure, for sharing intimate space and entering an individual and collective journey of questioning and experimentation.

The success of Paradox Bay's GATHERING 2009 depends on you!

Submit a proposal for a session or event—workshop, outing, debate, performance, experiment, lecture, etc—you would like to facilitate or present. The weeklong program will consist of a variety of artist-led sessions that address this year's theme. We expect 20-30 artists/attendees at GATHERING 2009.


This year’s Gathering aims to investigate three essential aspects of paradox:
confusion, discomfort, and engagement.

Here are some questions that will inform our dialogue:
• what does it mean to be fully engaged?
• when does being comfortable become being complacent?
• what are the dangers of inviting intimacy and risking vulnerability?
• when does confusion and discomfort bring about openings of perception and shifts in
understanding?
