ORPHEUS Stomped in Dirt is based on Claudio Monteverdi and Alessandro Striggio´s opera L’Orfeo Favola in Musica. The music is adapted by József Balázs and interpreted live on stage by a trio of the renowned Hungarian jazz group, the Balázs Elemér Group (a piano, drums, and a grand bass). The performance is a co-production between Spain and Hungary, with a Spanish guest dancer and two premiers: one in Budapest on Sept 9 (add. performances on the 10&11th) at the Budapesti Kamaraszínház, and the other one in Madrid at the Círculo de Bellas Artes on Sept 20, with 6 performances following.
The performance discusses the frustration of love in order to create thematic connections about the essential phenomena in our lives: desolation, death, imprisonment and the threatening prospect of self-representation (narcissism). The dramaturgy of the play encompasses movement, as well as the harmonious and visceral combination of other tools and objects, embracing the language of European physical theater.
