16th Meeting of Banlieues d'Europe

Creativity and innovation in European towns/ Cultural alternatives, new social solidarity 26-28 November, Brussels, Liège (Belgium) Opening the 26th of November in Brussels at 05.00 p.m – Maison des cultures de Molenbeek The 27th of November in Liege at 10.30 a.m – Turlg - Théâtre Universitaire Royale de Liège The 28th of November in Liege at 09.30 a.m – Faculté de Lettres et de Philosophie de Liège – Ulg 1 An unmissable resource centre of cultural and artistic innovation in Europe, Banlieues d’Europe brings together 300 international active partners and 4000 contacts in Europe. The network is constituted of cultural actors, artists, militants, social workers, local councillors and researchers. Their joint objective is to exchange practices and information and to get away from isolation in order to valorise cultural action projects in deprived neighbourhoods with excluded communities. For this 2009 meetings Banlieues d’Europe is pursuing its work of identification of artistic projects and reflection on cultural, social and economic alternatives… At this time of economic crisis, it is urgent to put into perspective alternative projects in town neighbourhoods, with the wide-ranging help of artists, inhabitants, researchers, local councillors, town developers, and economists from different backgrounds in France, Belgium, Germany, Romania, Great Britain and Italy. During three days, plenary sessions, simultaneous workshops and debates will take place, centred on three principal themes developed by artistic and cultural project: 1. Alternative Spaces: (Re)-Appropriation of public, urban and virtual spaces, cultural and artistic venues 2. Alternative and Solidarity Education: Meeting between those who cope with the failure of the system and those who construct an alternative 3. Cultural and Social Economy: Socio-professional and urban development insertion lever This meeting is being organized in the Framework of the European Year for Creativity and Innovation and supported by the DGEAC of the European Union, th city of Liège, the Ministry of the Audiovisual, of Health, of Equality of Opportunity and the General Secretary of the French Community of Belgium.
