The second event in our series moves us back onto terra-firma. Three artists will share their particular fascination with the phenomenon of the modest shed. Instigated from the bottom up, these tiny, ephemeral buildings often punch well above their architectural weight. We hope to explore how they manage to produce such a powerful, personal response, yet effortlessly generate meaningful social space.
John Davies: 'What Wordsworth did for daffodils, John Davies does for sheds.' (Radio 4 Front Row.) John Davies is a poet and writer who explores the very special experience of sheds through community projects and residencies. He is currently writing: Round Britain by Shed.
Ivan Morison: Heather and Ivan Morison have often focused on informal and transient shelter. Recently, a number of pavilions and a motor-home dedicated to apocalyptic literature have explored the themes of survivalism, retreat and new age strategies of habitation.
Thomas Pausz: Revisiting The Community Shed tells the story of the gardeners of Manor Garden Allotments, as their smallholdings were demolished for Olympic redevelopment. Thomas collaborated with the same group to recreate their much loved shed beside the Albert Hall.
