Measuring Cultural Diversity: Three Studies from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication

Author: Lidia Varbanova - Date: 16 dec 2011, 16:29

The studies, forecasting, and statistical branch (Département des études, de la prospective et des statistiques-DEPS) of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication has published three studies on cultural diversity in France in the book and recorded music industries as well as a study focusing on theatrical and video film markets in France and Europe.

The three studies draw on Andrew Stirling’s three-pronged approach to measure and analyze cultural diversity along the following dimensions: the variety produced and consumed, the balance of sales between various titles, and the range of works.
