A study which includes a comparative analysis of foundation types, taxation and legal issues in France, UK, Italy, Germany and the US. Its aim is to add to the debate on the role of foundations and to encourage their development in France: 'The weakness of the foundation sector puts France in an extremely fragile position both culturally and socially. At a time when public budgets are being squeezed throughout Europe, France does not have alternative sources of funding such as exist in neighbouring countries (Italy, Germany, UK) and in the US.' The July 2001 study was carried out by HEC Junior Conseil on the request of the Hippocrène Foundation.
